Please, J.Crew, no more half-tuck! They’ve been doing it for years, but they finally gone overboard. This was glaringly obvious in the April catalog, which featured pages and pages of models wearing their shirts only partially tucked in, with the rest sloppily falling out around the waistband. Maybe this was marginally cool a few year back, evoking that hip, disheveled thing that J.Crew sells so well. But these days, almost every style blogger on the planet has adopted this half-assed styling trickery (see here and here and here… oh here and here, too). This alone makes the look seem so calculated and try-hard, the opposite of its original intention. Now, the half-tuck just looks messy. And painfully lame. And impractical (as this blogger shows, her shirt tucked, and then fallen out and wrinkled.). You would think that J.Crew is the sort of company that moves on from a trend once it over-saturates, but judging from the current catalog, this is not the case. Didn’t anyone over in the marketing department flip through the pages and think, ‘Hmmm… maybe this is just a tad redundant?’
