There are many artists and crafters who try to hide their techniques as if they’re some closely-guarded state secret. Meh. I prefer creative people who sell cool shit and then teach others how to make cool shit, too. (It’s like the arty version of paying it forward.) Which is why I’m a fan of Hello Hydrangea, the online shop from self-taught weaver Lindsey Campbell. Here, you can buy Lindsey’s gorgeous hand-crafted tapestries and learn how to weave your own masterpiece through online tutorials. Lindsey’s work is marked by a clever mix of fibers and textures — chunky yarns with lighter weights, tassels and fringe, loops and knots, sequins, stripes and triangles…often times all in one piece. In theory, this style might sound like maximalist overdrive, but in practice, the many materials and colors play together in perfect harmony.
