This Bucks County home is all charming in the front, and party in the back
Perched up over a tranquil canal in leafy New Hope, Pennsylvania, the home of Harlan and Sally Weisman is full of surprises. Drive up to the front and you’ll take in cozy cottage touches like the white picket fence that opens with a bright blue door to a peaceful garden. But head around back and be prepared for a little Tex Avery-style eye bugging.
Taking full advantage of the bucolic landscape — and the adjoining lot that the Weismans also purchased when they bought the house last year — the breathtaking backyard features a two-floor layout with a spiral staircase that connects the upper level deck to the patio. Interior designer Helen Walton helped make the dream space a reality, putting a modernist spin on green living with 1960s-inspired decor that seamlessly travels from the outside to indoors. The back room, which overlooks the patio, is also kitted out in a retro mod design, and features rustic, woodsy touches, like a tree stump end table, stacked stone fireplace, and the same shades of chartreuse and citrus orange that accent the veranda. Back outside, the magical garden and greenery was brought to life by Carl Molter of Landscape Design Group.
