Why so serious? Bower Studios shows us how art and humor can make unexpectedly good bedfellows.
Sometimes the art world takes itself way too seriously, so it’s good to know there are still some creative folks out there who possess a healthy sense of humor. Which is why we appreciate everything Bower Studios is doing. Working out of Williamsburg, Brooklyn (because, really, where else would they be?), co-founders Danny Giannella and Tammer Hijazi craft handmade wood home decor pieces which are as much about form as as they are about function. And fun. We literally chuckled to ourselves while reading the names of some of their objects — a marble notepad called ‘Writer’s Block’, the ‘Pick-Up Stool’ which features Crayola-colored dowel foot rests. Particularly clever is the Key Target. Embedded with some sort of special magnetic powers, you just toss your keys and they’ll stick right to it.
