La Toya Jackson: It's a Family Affair
It's hard to believe that there once was a time before La Toya Jackson was famous for being Queen of the Batshit
Crazies. Before the multiple attempts at stardom, the psychic network, and various conspiracy
theory declarations, La Toya was simply another pretty Jackson family
sister whom Michael worshipped and considered one of his closest siblings. She had a couple of
minor hits in the 80's when anybody even remotely related to Michael Jackson was guaranteed
radio airplay. She also provided back-up vocals for a couple of her little
brother's songs (including "PYT") and made cameos in several of his videos.
About The Look
In his autobiograhy, Michael described La Toya as a girly girl who wouldn't feed the animals (ew!)
and ran you out of her room lest you get a fingerprint on the mirror. Her immaculate sense of
style is evident in this darling photo, taken in 1983. La Toya's ensemble is totally typical of
her playful 80's image but every covetable piece looks like
it could have come off the rack of Topshop circa now. A black and white striped t-shirt is topped by
a cropped white tuxedo jacket and paired with slouchy black pants. The feather-detailed
cowboy hat adds a little bit of wild wild west to new wave. And strangely, it all works.

George & Pattie: Goin' to San Francisco
In late 1967, Beatle George Harrison and wife Pattie Boyd decided to visit the Haight-Ashbury district of
San Francisco after hearing it was the mecca of all things artistic and free. George described
"being treated like the Messiah" while the pair made their way through the crowded city streets and
Golden Gate Park.
Unfortunately, the experience wasn't the spiritual awakening he was hoping for. Instead it was a sad scene full of
"spotty youths" hooked on various illegal substances which ultimately led to George never touching
another drug again.
About The Look
Perfectly capturing the breezy style of late 60's bohemia, George and Pattie look like a matched set
here, a psychedelic Barbie and Ken. Her large-scale paisley mini dress perfectly
juxtaposes his swirly Age of Aquarius trousers and denim toppers (loving the fact that he's the one
sporting the heart-shaped specs). Piles of beads and pinback badges look effortlessly tossed on while
Pattie's amazing purple gladiator boots seem to have spawned a million copies forty years after this photo was taken.

Nena
German pop band best known for their ditty "99 Luftballons", which "became a number-one hit in Germany in 1983,
and went on to major international chart success the following year, an English version hitting number one in the
UK and the original German version hitting number two in the US." ~ Wikipedia
About The Look
Nena more often than not sported typical new wave attire of asymmetrical things in red and black. But for this
press photo, they got their spring pastels on and look super fresh in aqua blue and pink, stripes and teased
frosted highlights (do the hair is you dare).

Pherber & Turner
Performance (1970)
"Chas, a violent and psychotic East London gangster needs a place to lie low after a hit that should never have
been carried out. He finds the perfect cover in the form of guest house run by the mysterious Mr. Turner, a
one-time rock superstar, who is looking for the right spark to rekindle his faded talent." ~ IMDB
About The Look
Costumer Deborah Dixon twisted up Anita Pallenberg's self-styled rock-girl bohemia with a little bit of black
magic decadence.
