Area is beloved for their glitzy fashions that feel both throwback and futuristic
Since launching Area design studio in 2013, designers Beckett Fogg and Piotrek Panszczyk have built a loyal following of fashion insiders that has grown exponentially since they became finalists in the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund earlier this year. Beloved for their glitzy fashions that feel both throwback and futuristic, Fogg and Panszczyk are experts at manipulating traditional fabrics and turning them into something completely new.
Take, for instance, Area’s fall-winter collection. With a soft-focus lookbook that could have been unearthed from the disco years, the clothes have real 70s sci-fi appeal. According to the designers themselves, ‘hard-core femininity’ was the official (albeit vague) theme, but honestly, how can you not think Logan’s Run or ‘Buck Rogers’ when you see a shimmery hot pink jumpsuit with tall gold boots? For sure, Area is also known for their love of metallics, particularly in pastels, which they utilize here not only in pink stretch, but also in a luminous peach, embossed lamé. Silhouettes too are straight from Studio 54 — floor-grazing flares, one-shoulder looks, slits up to there. Swarovski crystal embellishments, in pinstripes and hearts, add additional flash to Area’s dancefloor-ready wares.
