Interior designer Henri Rodriguez rehabbed this living room, which was part of a 19th century Parisian townhouse featured in L’Officiel in 1977. Rodriguez’s task was to update the 100 year-old home, a feat accomplished by taking down walls to create more space, and bringing in modern furnishing that were sparse and sculptural. L’Officiel noted Rodriguez’s use of unconventional materials like Plexiglass and stainless steel, remarking ‘In the USA avant-garde rooms may now feature elements that were used first in commerce and industry…but it was Paris that first thought of bringing them into the home.’ Today, of course, these industrial materials are commonplace, and even considered retro.
