Dubbed the “Bodyworks” collection, Dutch duo Viktor&Rolf take the office-to-gym route with their men’s spring ’15 offering. However, unlike the endless stream of athletic wear that has crowded the runways for seemingly forever, there is more work and less play in this inspired mix, whose looks are best kept away from a sweaty treadmill.
On the active side, V&R present nylon breakers, drawstring joggers, mesh tees, and bold flashes of highlighter yellow and reflector red. A pair of baggy pants feature pinstriped blocking that looks like a pair of layered gym shorts. Bridging the divide between the sporty and formal sides is a Miró-esque Cubist pattern with roots in camouflage which is appliquéd onto a grey sweatshirt, printed on silk scarves, and woven into a black tuxedo jacket. Dressier are fit, patch pocket blazers, sleek suiting in shades of teal green and mosaic blue, and trim (but not tight) trousers, cut straight with razor-sharp creases. There is also an unexpectedly cool feel to V&R’s monochromatic styling of several of the looks — from head-to-toe navy and oatmeal, to the more fearless teal shirt and pants, suddenly matchy-matchy seems very now-now.
