Ji Oh designs clothes for women who favor creepers to Christian Louboutin.
AW14 marks the official debut for Ji Oh. While she has been designing under the Shadowconnected moniker since 2010, this season the Korean-born, London-educated, NY-living designer took the eponymous route, reworking her label in her own name. However, Oh’s core design principal remains intact — a no-frills style that relies heavily on geometry, androgyny and balanced proportion. For instance, a swingy cropped jacket is paired with a slim-line pencil skirt and a chunky turtleneck sweater is cropped and sleeveless. The trousers are cut to perfection; straight-legged, but slouchy and boyish, they’re cool and flattering, and a wee bit devil-may-care. There are also shades of the late 70s new wave, in both color (black, white, red) and Oh’s minimalist design technique. Describing her customer as “Somebody who wouldn’t dress up much but is always stylish. [They] aren’t necessarily looking stunning all the time and wearing heels’, she happily caters to those of us fashion lovers who don’t fit the prototypical Louboutin/Choo/Manolo-wearing mold.
