george & pattie: isn’t it iconic?

George Harrison & Pattie Boyd

In late 1967, Beatle George and wife Pattie decided to visit the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco after hearing it was the mecca of all things artistic and free. George described “being treated like the Messiah” while the pair made their way through the crowded city streets and Golden Gate Park. Unfortunately, the experience wasn’t the spiritual awakening he was hoping for. Instead it was a sad scene full of “spotty youths” hooked on various illegal substances which ultimately led to George never touching another drug again.

About The Look

Perfectly capturing the breezy style of late 60′s bohemia, George and Pattie look like a matched set here, a psychedelic Barbie and Ken. Her large-scale paisley mini dress perfectly juxtaposes his swirly Age of Aquarius trousers and denim toppers (loving the fact that he’s the one sporting the heart-shaped specs). Piles of beads and pinback badges look effortlessly tossed on while Pattie’s amazing purple gladiator boots seem to have spawned a million copies forty years after this photo was taken.
